There is no shortage of places to visit in and around the Waterville area. The area is rich in history and in nearby Cahirciveen you can visit the historic house of Daniel O’ Connell, who was often referred to as “The uncrowned king of Ireland”. Also nearby are the historic monastic settlements of Skellig Michael and Church Island. At the top of the Skellig Micheal island is a perfectly preserved monastery which was founded around the 7th or 8th century. Access to the island is not easy. It involves a 50 minute sea journey and the climbing of 640 steps to the top of the island, however it is well worth the effort as the settlement is in excellent condition. Trips to the Islands can be arranged during your stay.
